The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad is one of the oldest and major Upanishads of Hinduism. The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad is under the Vajasaneyi Brahmana of the Kanvi branch of the Yajurveda. In terms of size, it is larger than all the Upanishads and is called ‘Aranyaka’ because it is studied in the forest. Thus, being ‘Brihat’ and ‘Aranyaka’, it is named ‘Brihadaranyaka’. This is stated by Bhagwan Bhashyakar at the very beginning of the text.
The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad is considered one of the major texts of Advaita Vedanta.
